What is included in a paint by numbers kit?

A kit includes a pre-numbered linen canvas, numbered pre-mixed acrylic paints, three nylon brushes and a small reference image. The standard kit description also lists two screws and two wall hooks. Brush color and handle style may vary. Check the selected product for its size, palette and format.

What size and options do standard kits have?

The current standard collection lists a 40 × 50 cm canvas, approximately 15.7 × 19.7 inches, with Type choices of No Frame and Framed. Check the individual product before ordering. Custom size, Colors and Finish options are separate; they do not apply to every standard design.

What do No Frame, Framed and Ready-to-Hang mean?

No Frame is a rolled numbered canvas. Framed on a standard kit, and Ready-to-Hang on a Custom kit, mean a canvas pre-stretched on wooden bars. You still paint it and let it dry before hanging. A decorative outer frame is not included. See the framing guide for display choices.

Am I buying a finished painting or a kit?

You are buying a kit to paint yourself: a numbered canvas, paints, brushes and a reference image. Ready-to-Hang describes the pre-stretched canvas support, not a completed painting. Finished-artwork and lifestyle examples on Custom pages are AI-assisted illustrations, not exact previews of your order.

How should I choose a difficulty level?

Check the product's difficulty label and the size of its numbered shapes. Larger areas can be easier to follow. Library Whiskers, for example, is Intermediate. Custom 24 / 36 / 48 color options are not standard difficulty ratings. Compare photo detail too; the kit selection guide explains what to check.

Do I need experience, and what can I learn?

No drawing experience is needed: match each canvas number to its paint pot. You can practice brush control, edges and paint handling, while drawing and composition remain separate skills. Start with our beginner painting guide; Muse Guide offers painting help and ideas.

How long will it take to finish a kit?

Time varies with size, detail, your pace and session length. A 40 × 50 cm Custom kit with 24 colors has no fixed completion time; color count alone does not describe the work. Plan several sessions and, for a gift you paint yourself, allow time for drying too.

How do I turn my photo into a kit?

Choose a Custom product, select its size, color count and finish, and upload your photo when ordering. You receive a physical numbered-canvas kit to paint yourself. Check the photo and options before checkout; start with the Custom photo guide or Custom paint by numbers kit.

Which Custom sizes, color counts and finishes can I choose?

Choose 40 × 50, 50 × 60 or 60 × 80 cm, listed as approximately 16 × 20, 20 × 24 or 24 × 32 inches. Each size offers 24, 36 or 48 colors and No Frame or Ready-to-Hang. These are Custom choices; standard kits have their own size and Type options.

How should I choose between 24, 36 and 48 colors?

24 colors gives you fewer paint pots to track. The 36- and 48-color options provide larger pre-mixed palettes. Compare the selected price, canvas size and photo before choosing. All three use number matching; more colors cannot restore a blurry face or missing detail in the original photo.

What makes a photo suitable for a Custom kit?

Choose a sharp, well-lit image with a clear main subject. For people or pets, keep faces or eyes easy to see and leave space for cropping. A close portrait or clear focal point is easier to assess than a distant, crowded scene. Follow the subject page's advice or the Custom photo guide.

How should I choose and order a kit as a gift?

Decide whether the recipient will paint the kit or you will give a painting you complete yourself. Check the subject, difficulty, size and finish; for Custom, choose a clear personal photo. Allow time for delivery, painting and drying. Read the Shipping Policy and gift guide, and contact us about a fixed occasion date before ordering.

Are the images AI-assisted? Can I choose an entirely AI-free kit?

Custom product pages use AI-assisted lifestyle and finished-artwork illustrations, not customer submissions or exact previews. Your kit is based on your uploaded photo and selected options. We do not make a blanket AI-free promise for the design or production process. If this matters to your purchase, contact us about the specific kit before ordering.

Are the kits acrylic, or do they use markers and paint pens?

Our kits use pre-mixed acrylic paint pots, not markers or paint pens. Match the canvas numbers to the supplied paints; mixing colors is not required to follow the design.

Do I need water, and what if the paint is too thick?

The pre-mixed paints are ready to use; water is useful for rinsing brushes. If paint is too thick, add one or two drops of clean water, stir gently and test. Add gradually: too much water reduces coverage and can make paint run across lines. See the thick acrylic paint guide.

Which brush should I use, and how do I care for it?

Use the largest brush for broad areas, a medium brush for edges and the smallest for fine shapes. Load only the tip for small areas. Rinse between colors, pat dry on a cloth or paper towel, and use gentle pressure. The three supplied brushes give you a starting set.

How do I keep the paint usable between sessions?

Open only the color you need. Close it when you pause, wipe paint from the rim and press the lid fully shut. Acrylic starts drying in air. Adjust thick paint gradually with clean water; if a pot arrives damaged or completely dry, photograph it and its number, then contact us.

Can I buy extra paint or get help with a missing color?

contact us about your kit and paint number before ordering extra paint. Send the order number, color number and a photo to help@diyartmuse.com so we can check the request. If paint is missing or arrives unusable, describe the problem and see the Refund Policy.

How should I prepare and look after the canvas?

Unroll No Frame gently and secure it to a flat surface with clips or low-tack tape around the edges. Avoid hard folds and adhesive on the artwork. Let paint dry before framing or hanging, and measure the canvas before buying a frame. Read the canvas preparation guide and framing guide; our wall decor guide offers display ideas.

How long does a kit or finished painting last?

Our kit details do not state a fixed shelf-life or finished-artwork lifespan. Keep paint pots sealed, protect canvas from hard folds and let paintings dry before display. Check paints when reopening an older kit. The thick acrylic paint guide explains gradual thinning; a completely dry pot needs a separate support inquiry.

How long will my order take, and how will I get tracking?

Read the current Shipping Policy for processing and delivery information. When tracking is available, it goes to the checkout email address. Timing depends on the order and destination. For help with an order or a fixed gift date, contact us with the order number or the kit you are considering.

Can I cancel or return my kit?

Standard and Custom orders have different cancellation and return terms. Read the current Refund Policy, contact help@diyartmuse.com promptly for cancellation requests, and ask for instructions before returning anything. For a faulty, damaged, incomplete or wrong kit, send the order number and clear photos of the problem.

Can I cancel or return a Custom order?

The Custom cancellation and refund window is 24 hours after ordering. Email help@diyartmuse.com within that window and wait for written confirmation. Afterward, a kit made from your photo cannot be canceled, returned or refunded for a change of mind.

Remedies for a faulty, damaged, incomplete or wrong item, or one materially different from the agreed image or description, still apply. Non-waivable consumer rights remain unaffected. Read the current Refund Policy for full terms and reporting instructions.

Where can I find help with painting or choosing an idea?

Muse Guide combines painting basics and inspiration, with links to guides and kit ideas. Use the beginner painting guide for setup and brush practice. Compare a specific project's dimensions, detail and finish with the kit selection guide and its product page.

What should I check before buying a kit?

Compare canvas material and size, included paints and brushes, finish, and design detail. For Custom, check photo clarity and palette choices. Read the Refund Policy and Shipping Policy before ordering. The actual product details help you decide whether a kit fits your project without relying on a “best” label.
