Peinture par numéros : conseils et techniques

Essential Brush Techniques

Flat Wash

For large numbered sections, use your largest brush and apply paint in smooth, even strokes in one direction. Don't go back over partially dried paint — it creates streaks.

Detail Work

For tiny sections and edges, switch to your smallest brush. Load less paint (dip only the tip) and use short, precise strokes.

Blending Edges

For a softer look between two adjacent colors, paint the darker color first, then while it's still wet, paint the lighter color slightly overlapping. The colors will blend naturally.

Color Management

  • Work dark to light: Start with your darkest colors and progress to lighter ones
  • Cover completely: Apply enough paint to hide the numbers — usually 2 thin coats works better than 1 thick coat
  • Don't mix on the canvas: Use a separate palette if you want to blend colors
  • Keep pots closed: Acrylic dries fast — open one pot at a time

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using too much water: This dilutes the paint and makes it transparent
  • Rushing: Let each color dry slightly before painting adjacent sections
  • Skipping the reference image: Check the reference photo to see how the final piece should look
  • Pressing too hard: Gentle strokes preserve brush tips and prevent paint buildup

Finishing Touches

  1. Touch up: After the full painting is dry, check for any numbers still showing through and add a second coat
  2. Clean edges: Use your smallest brush to sharpen lines between colors
  3. Let it fully cure: Wait 24–48 hours before framing or handling
  4. Seal (optional): A clear acrylic spray sealer adds UV protection and a uniform finish

Display Your Finished Art

Once dry, your painting is ready to frame and display. If you chose a Ready-to-Hang kit, simply mount it on the wall. For No Frame kits, a standard 16 × 20 in frame works perfectly.
